Find your happiness and learn to put it first.
I am a dedicated Counsellor and Couples Therapist based in Darlington with a passion for helping individuals and couples navigate life's challenges. With a focus on anxiety and how it impacts on mental wellbeing. I have developed a unique approach to therapy that empowers clients to overcome obstacles and live more fulfilling lives. In my practice, I not only provide a safe, non-judgemental space for clients to share their experiences, but also specialise in working with members of the LGBT + community.
It's important to me to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels understood and supported, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. With years of experience, I have helped numerous individuals and couples find relief from anxiety, build stronger relationships and achieve personal growth. If you are seeking a dedicated and compassionate therapist to help you navigate life's challenges. I am here to support you on your journey to a happier, more fulfilling life.
I believe that every couple is unique, and my approach to therapy reflects this understanding. By creating a safe space, I help my couple clients build trust, deepen connection and work through challenges together. "Bridgette was amazing myself and my partner attended couples therapy. She gave us a safe space to unpack what had gone wrong in the relationship. She helped with coping strategies for the future and put us back on the right track. She has great empathy and is an excellent listener."
As a counsellor my role is to give you space and understanding to help you on your journey of self-discovery. To explore your life and make new, meaningful choices within it.
As a Person-Centred therapist, you can expect to receive empathy, understanding and emotional support. I can offer you the chance to discuss and explore difficulties that you are struggling with, in a safe and confidential environment. The fact that I have no connection to your life, this is very helpful for me to see things subjectively without any judgement.
Together, we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Therapy is not about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.
Learn to say no!
Stop people pleasing and do what is right for you! Set healthy boundaries between you and others.
Learn to let go!
Let go of negative emotions. Some emotions often hold us back from true happiness.
Be more present in the NOW!
This will help reduce stress and anxiety, try to focus on the here and now.
Self-Care.
Make yourself a priority, this will benefit your self-esteem, protect your mental health and improve your physical health.
We all have a tendency to put others first, but in doing so, we can sometimes neglect our relationship with ourselves. Let me be your advocate and show you a kinder, gentler way to treat the most important person in your life.
Be your best self, alone and with others, and cultivate deep and lasting friendships and relationships.
Walk and Talk Therapy involves talking in nature whilst walking. As clients walk and talk, they can experience the benefits of exercise, improved mood, reduced stress and increased energy levels. The natural space can also contribute to a sense of relaxation and connection with the surroundings, providing a calming and grounding effect on the therapy session.
This dynamic can help clients feel more comfortable and open to discussing their thoughts and feelings. As a result, clients may experience a greater sense of well-being and reduced anxiety.
As a Supervisor, you can expect guidance, support and encouragement. A space to discuss your therapeutic work and a place to enhance your clinical skills. Supervision provides an opportunity for professional growth, ethical practice and personal development.
I work with qualified, professional Counsellors who benefit from sharing their caseload, and receiving guidance to navigate difficult cases. My role also involves providing a supportive environment for Counsellors to let off steam and feel safe to do so!
I also provide supervision for student Counsellors who are beginning their journey to becoming a professional Counsellor. I provide a safe and supportive space to assist students with their personal and professional development. Helping them to navigate challenging cases and to enhance their therapeutic practice. Encouraging them to work ethically and with autonomy. I feel privileged to be part of their learning journey and find working with students very rewarding!
"Having just finished a year long supervision relationship with Bridget, I am pleased to review her with 5 stars. Bridget has helped me ethically discuss client work, providing support, encouragement, information on additional learning, training and resources. She has shared her knowledge with me to encourage growth, development and self-awareness in my therapeutic work. She is personable, understanding, non-judgemental and professional. I have grown personally and professionally as a counsellor with the incredible support from her supervision."

As a compassionate therapist, I specialise in supporting individuals navigating the complexities of Anxiety and Depression. Together, we can explore personalised strategies to manage and overcome these challenges, fostering resilience and a renewed sense of well-being. Let's embark on a journey towards emotional wellness, where understanding, support, and empowerment guide our path forward.
My work also involves providing a supportive and understanding environment for clients who identify on the autism spectrum and clients who have ADHD. My approach combines empathy and the use of evidence based practices to address the specific needs and strengths of each client. Let's collaborate on a path of self-discovery, embracing neurodiversity and fostering personal growth within a framework of respect and acceptance.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and work ethically towards their Ethical Framework. My personal therapeutic experience of receiving therapy for trauma, led me to become a therapist. This amazing experience was life changing, it gave me self esteem, confidence and the motivation to make positive changes in my life.
