What You Can Expect in Your "New Beginnings" Session:
This extended, and critical initial session (typically 90 minutes) is where we lay the groundwork for effective couples therapy.
1. Hearing Both Sides (Fair and Balanced Perspective):
• Each partner will have dedicated, uninterrupted time to share their perspective on the relationship, the challenges, and their individual feelings.
• I act as a neutral guide, ensuring that both voices are truly heard, respected, and validated from the start.
2. Relationship History & Assessment:
• We'll explore the full journey of your relationship, from the "honeymoon phase" and major milestones to the current struggle points.
• This history helps identify patterns, unmet needs, and the key moments where the connection began to shift.
3. Understanding Your "Why":
• We will discuss what each partner hopes to gain from therapy and establish realistic, shared goals for improving communication, intimacy, and connection.
4. The Path Forward:
• Based on the assessment and history, I will share my initial clinical impressions and outline a clear, actionable plan for how we can work together to help you reconnect and thrive. You will leave the session with immediate clarity and hope.
Continuing the Journey: Relationship Renewal Sessions
Once we have established your history and goals in the "New Beginnings" session, we move into the core work of therapy. These hourly sessions are tailored to your specific needs and focus on practical application and skill-building.
What We Will Focus On:
• Skill Implementation: We move beyond discussing problems and practice concrete communication and conflict resolution techniques in real-time.
• Deepening Emotional Understanding: Exploring the root causes of disconnection and helping both partners understand each other's emotional landscape more fully.
• Pattern Interruption: Identifying and actively changing the negative interaction cycles that lead to arguments and distance.
• Maintenance & Growth: Ensuring the positive changes are lasting, and building new, healthy patterns of intimacy and connection.
These regular, focused sessions are essential for creating sustainable healing and growth in your relationship.
You will receive a “connection kit” as part of your homework to create meaningful conversations and to strengthen emotional intimacy.
An initial consultation session is an important step in the couples therapy process. It is a great opportunity for both of you to share your own perspective regarding your relationship issues. It also provides an opportunity for you to get to know me so you can decide if working with me would be suitable.
We will dive right in and begin to address your concerns and set goals moving forward.
After your initial session, we will be delving into the history of your relationship. Learning about your current communication styles and how you deal with conflict. Gaining more of an understanding of you as a couple.
You will learn how to communicate in a healthy way and how to resolve conflict. Setting healthy boundaries for your relationship to grow.
Taking part in active listening exercises to help you truly connect as a couple. Getting to know each other through thought provoking questionnaires. Receiving homework to reinforce in-session learning and the practical application of skills. This fosters motivation to actively work on your relationship in between sessions.
I will guide discussions, encourage open and honest communication. Including teaching practical skills for resolving conflict and enhancing intimacy.
